Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."
I have been comforted as much as challenged by this scripture passage.
Comforted to know that God is with us. This passage ends a section where Jesus is teaching how to get along with each other in our lives. It's about relationships. And it's good to know in our conflicts with one another that God is with us, helping us through those conflicts.
And yet, challenged that it takes two or three for God to be present? What if I am alone?
And then I realized, what if God were one of the two? And then I knew again, I am never alone, never left on my own, never abandoned by God. It's about relationships.
Some of the Good News is that God is always in a relationship with us. Even when we are the only other one around. And in those moments, there are two gathered: you and God.
It's Good News to know that when we gather, even just two of us that God is with, building relationships between us, strengthening relationships amongst us, and healing us in the midst of broken relationships.
With God, it's all about relationship. Hm, guess that's why God came to us in Jesus.... so we could have yet another relationship with God.
Hope you have a relationship with God, no, I pray you do!
Peace in our journeys,
Steve Melde
